Although, so far as is known, no bodies of those who died when the Titanic was lost were brought back for burial at Southampton, there are a number of graves in the Old Cemetery, at Southampton Common, that have links with the Titanic tragedy. Most relate to people who died but some who survived were, on their later deaths, buried at the cemetery. These guided walks, led by the Friends of Southampton's Old Cemetery (a group of volunteers), tell the poignant stories of those involved with the Titanic Story.

The walk lasts approximately 1 ¾ hours.

THE TITANIC COMMEMORATIVE SERVICE
Date: Sunday 13th April
Venue: Holyrood Church, High Street, Southampton SO14 2NS
Times: 12.00 – 12.45hrs
Entry: FREE

This service is open to the public and commemorates those who lost their lives in this tragic event. 549 people from Southampton, mostly crew, drowned on that night.

The service will be held at Holyrood Church which is situated on the High Street in Southampton’s Old Town. The church has close connections with the sea (it was known in medieval times as ‘the sailor’s Church) since the 13th century.

After it was partially destroyed by bombing in 1940 Holyrood became the official Merchant Navy memorial. In 1974 the Titanic Crew Memorial was moved here from Southampton Common. The church offers a place of tranquillity in a busy part of the city.

The service will have readings, hymns and a wreath laying ceremony. If you wish to lay a wreath please contact David Dilnot on 023 8083 2691 or email david.dilnot@southampton.gov.uk
